Caster Semenya: reveal that is hermaphrodite
65The gender
verification tests carried out at the South African athlete, Caster
Semenya, revealed that it is hermaphroditic, according to today
released Australia's Daily Telegraph newspaper.
The International
Athletics Federation has merely noted that the evidence still must be
reviewed by a panel of medical experts and that "there shall be no
decision on the case until it has had the opportunity to complete the
examination, which could extended even to the end of November.
Furthermore the South
African government has said it will declare "war" on the International
Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) if excluded from
competitions to world champion 800m, Caster Semenya, being
hermaphroditic.
The South African Minister of Sport and
Recreation, Makhenkesi Stofile said today in a statement to the media
in Pretoria, it would be "World War III."
"We go to the highest levels to counter the (eventual) decision. It would be totally unfair and unjust," he said.
Stofile stressed that his department
has consulted with attorneys regarding the alleged violation of Human
Rights Semenya and said he was "disappointed with the way this matter
has been handled by those with vested interests."
The fact that gender
verification tests, according to various international media,
indicating that Semenya is hermaphrodite "means nothing" to Stofile,
who emphasized that she is "a girl" and adds: "I do not think is a
woman. She is just a kid. I think it's a girl who enjoys her growth. "
"They have
indicated that is hermaphrodite, but for me it means nothing," repeated
Stofile, for whom the fact has been called into question the gender of
the athlete is "disgusting and unethical."
Winnie
Mandela, parliamentary South Africa's ruling party and former wife of
Nelson Mandela defended told the local press today Semenya broadcast,
which said it was a "heroine" sports and "innocent victim" of the
controversy that has generated on their sex.
In statements published today by the South African
newspaper "The Star", Winnie was "very concerned" by the news
disseminated by various means, which states that Semenya, 18 years old,
is hermaphroditic and your body produces large amounts of testosterone.
"The poor girl (Caster Semenya) is an innocent victim in
this case, which does not depend on it. It is the responsibility of
South Africa to support the child and tell the rest of the world that
remains a hero," he said Winnie.
Mandela's former wife,
who was the first black president of South Africa, also criticized the
South African magazine "You", by presenting, in its latest edition, to
Caster Semenya with a new look, with very feminine hairstyles and
clothes.
For Winnie, appearance, very different from usual, they have given
Semenya in South African magazine is "a caricature" of the athlete:
"It's the cruelest joke that a human being can inflict on another," he
concludes.

This is very controversial. I believe that the best way to determine whether or not Semenya is indeed a "girl" is to see if she has ovaries. That really is the rule of thumb. I hope that they figure this out soon. Making such a distinction will stop all the needless slander once and for all.
